Serger help
Sergers are a great asset in home sewing. When sergers are used, sewing is faster, easier and projects are well finished. The following quick videos provide the most basic information about sergers.
SICK SERGER? It is hard to know when to go to the repair shop. Try these steps to test
out a noise problem. Many times the problem is in the threading.
Take all the thread out and listening to the machine without thread.
If it is making a noise take it to the repair shop.
If it is running smooth the problem is probably in the threading or tension.
Thread the serger with 3 threads - use a new needle in the right position (be sure and take the left out)
Set your tensions according to your machine manual for 3 thread serging.
Double check all settings. Differential fee in neutral position, length at 3, Knife dial between 1 and 2 for plain cotton fabric. Try at least 3 different types of fabrics.
If it sews okay add the left needle and see if it sews.
If the stitches won't pick up it can be the needle. Possibly it is not all the way up - which is common or it is in crocked - throw away the needle and get a new one.
Always use the same size needles together. If you change one size change both of them. I recommend 80/12 for regular sewing.
