Lynn Harris
Lynn has been a friend of mine for many years. She lives here in Corpus Christi and has been an active member of the local chapter of the American Sewing Guild since it's began serving on the board in many different capacities including special events which she coordinated a very successful style show every year.
Here is my short interview with Lynn:
How Long have you been sewing? I started sewing when I was 14 years old. I made a skirt by myself because I was not allowed to take Home Ec.
What type of sewing do you do? I love to sew anything, it is my relaxation. I quilt, make dolls, sew garments and have done every kind of home dec project including upholstery.
What was your most challenging project? I redid my entire travel trailer including drapes, fold out beds and cushioned dinette. The cushions were the hardest because of the odd shapes and I had no patterns to go by.
What do you like to sew best? Something that turns out well!
What are you currently working on? I am going to make a blouse from Vogue pattern 2967 designed by Sandra Betzina. It has an interesting neck "window" that will be fun to embellish.
What was your worst sewing experience? Once I was cutting something out on my bed and I ended cutting the bedspread out along with it. Then I was making 2 christening gowns for my 2 grandchildren, I was almost finished and I serged off the strap on one of the shoulders. I had to remake the top and was sewing it on the way to the Christening in Houston. I have accidentally sewn all kinds of things to my robe.
What kind of sewing machine do you have? I have a Viking, 2 Singers - one is set up only for embroidery, a Janome and I have a Babylock serger.
Have you had a funny sewing experience you would like to share? I was taking a tailoring class at the local Jr College years ago and I was making a 3 piece men's suit using a Vogue pattern. I kept having trouble putting in the zipper. The instructor was also puzzled and come to find out the pattern instruction had you putting the zipper in backward. No wonder it wasn't working!
What advise would you give the readers? Take advantage of any sewing groups you may have in your area and get involved. There is just so much to learn and so many wonderful people that share their knowledge and talent. You will learn alot and make great friends!

Lynn won the stash challenge with her Lantern Tote Bag.
Lynn made the above wall hanging from screen print squares that she
purchased when she was on vacation in Jackson Hole Wyoming. It only took about 3 days to make once she got everything together. The screen prints were purchased at Stitch-n-time quilt shop, the inside boarder was purchased in Casterville, Texas during a sewing retreat and the backing was purchased at Heirloom Elegance in Corpus Christi.
Lynn made the above doll to wear her grand children's clothes. He is
waiting for some shoes or boots.
