Who's Sewing?
**Notice: be sure and scroll all the way down to see all the pictures Kathy provided.
I met Kathy when I was in Ohio doing a seminar for the Niles ASG chapter. She was kind enough to model
some of my jackets for me. I found out she is known in the area as the felting queen and that she was about to do a lecture on her passion - felting. I was fascinated to hear about how she picks up clothing from thrift stores and puts her felting touch on them. Kathy's mother and daughter sew and also attended the seminar. Her Mother has been sewing since she was nine years old. Once a week Kathy, her mother and Kathy's daughter get together and sew and her mother shares all her extensive sewing knowledge with them. Kathy says her mother is a beautiful seamstress and sews almost every day. Kathy's Grandmother also sewed and that makes 4 generations! No skipping generations in that family. Kathy began sewing when she was younger but after she retired from GE 3 years ago she has developed a great interest. This family was delightful to meet and I am sure you will enjoy hearing Kathy's sewing story. Thanks for sharing Kathy!
Kathy at the Felting Machine
This is what Kathy says:
I have to say I was honored when Patty asked me to be featured in "Who's Sewing" Here is a short background on how it all got started. I have always been a junk store junky. One day I went into our local Goodwill and was totally amazed at the beautiful jackets and clothing on the racks. I had purchased a felting machine and when I took it home I was thinking "what did I buy this for"? Then a light went off. I could practice felting on some of these jackets and skirts and just see what happens. I started buying all kinds of fuzzy yarns and found wool roving in many wonderful colors. I became totally hooked on felting. My sewing guild started calling me the felting queen. I was felting everything I could get my hands on. I even felted underwear for the gal that runs our group because she made a comment that I probably felted my undergarments. I was then asked to show my jackets and purses at a local store. Since then I have had people ask me to do some jackets for them. What a thrill because there is nothing greater to me then to share!
